PRODUCING QUALITY & INNOVATIVE
Back in 1992, our founder, Richard Willats, moved to his farm in Thabazimbi to pursue his passion for cattle farming. Once farming, he found the savannah veld of Thabazimbi to be unviable for farming practises due to the encroachment of Acacia bush. He set about reclaiming and rehabilitating the farm, starting with the removal of the encroached Acacia (Vachellia) bush.
During the rehabilitation process, Richard noticed the animals browsing on the harvested Acacia bush. He started asking himself some questions: Why were the animals so interested in the Acacia bush? What was in this particular plant species that the animals required in their diets? This sparked a lightbulb moment…and his entrepreneurial nature kicked in.
BOSKOS was born!
This superior animal feed comes directly from Acacia plants found in nature. Unlike other commercial animal feeds, BOSKOS is unique in its nature as it utilises the natural browse of the animals. The benefits have been proven over the years through the success of BOSKOS.
Since that first farm clearing in 1992, WES Enterprises has grown and pioneered methods to rehabilitate the Thabazimbi bushveld by means of mechanical debushing. The harvested Acacia (Vachellia) foliage is refined and utilised in the production of BOSKOS and WES Feeds, thus creating a harmonious balance.
BOSKOS was born out of the need to rehabilitate large tracts of previously good farming land, located in the nutritious grazing savanna landscapes in southern Africa. For centuries the commercial overgrazing of these lands has resulted in a devastating encroachment by indigenous thorn-bush, formerly known as Acacia, now Vachellia. This is the natural feed of wild herbivores, but the encroachment is problematic towards domestic livestock farming.
The rehabilitation process results in re-establishing the savanna landscape, which enables the reintroduction of livestock farming, in turn creating many job opportunities & improving the living standards within the community. For thousands of years wild herbivores roamed Africa intimately in search of food & nutrients, however civilization & modern agricultural practices have reduced their free roaming plains to captivity on farms & reserves, hence human-management has become vitally important.
Individuals & institutions around the world have made concerted efforts to share in these natural wonders of Africa by relocating many of the various African Herbivore species. WES Enterprises, is proud of its achievement of bringing to these relocated herbivores their natural feed in the form of BOSKOS.
Changing lives and landscapes in Africa, by bringing BOSKOS to other countries around the world
